NOTICE

DualWins has been withdrawn in favour of AddAWins (also from THPC).

AddAWins can dual-boot 2, or multi-boot 3, 4, 5, or 6, versions of Windows 9x,

INSTALLATION

dualwins301.exe contains DualWins version 3.01

dualwins301.exe is a self-extracting file, and runs from Windows Explorer.

Double-click dualwins301.exe to install DualWins to C:\Dualwins.

If the install does not produce
C:\DUALWINS\SETUP.BAT
C:\DUALWINS\README.TXT
then you should remove it, and run dualwins301.exe again.

Installation and Setup make no changes to user's system.

Readme.txt is essential reading.

Setup must be run after installation.
User can run Setup from the Installation routine.

SETUP

Setup Setup is run from the Install or from Explorer. It initializes DualWins.

Setup makes no changes to the user's system.

Setup places a few shortcuts on user's Windows 9x boot disk.

A:\Addwin will be used when preparing for the installation of a new Windows 9x.

C:\Dualwins\Addwin.bat will be used after installation of the new Windows 9x.

A DualWins shortcut (for dual-booting) will be placed on the Desktop.

ADDWIN #1 - Adding a new Windows 9x

User boots to true MS-DOS using the Windows 9x boot disk.

Addnew 1 User runs
A:\Addwin

Then a new Windows 9x is installed to its own logical partition using same FAT type.

User can use
Z:\XXX\setup /is
where Z: is the CD drive and \XXX is the Windows folder on the installation CD.

An OEM CD fix for Error SU0168 is run automatically.

Note:
If user does not install a new Windows 9x after running Addwin, then
A:\Restore1
must be run from the boot disk (to restore the removed boot files and undo the OEM CD fix).

ADDWIN #2 - recording the new Windows

When the new Windows 9x is installed, open its Windows Explorer to the C: drive.

Explorer

Addnew 2 Double-click Addwin.bat

This will:
save the new boot files,
undo the OED CD fix,
enable the dual-boot.

A DualWins shortcut will be placed on the Desktop of the new Windows.


User can now

DUAL-BOOT

Dual-Boot
Double-click the Desktop DualBoot shortcut to dual-boot to the other Windows.

(if Me is current, user must bootup with boot disk and run A:\Dualboot from boot disk).



Everything in DualWins requires user confirmation (except the dual-boot when its option is set to an immediate reboot).

User can dictate the manner of the reboot for a current Windows by using the Fastboot.bat option available in C:\Dualwins\Options.

Readme has full explanations of all options.

OPTIONS

Options Start menu > DualWins > Options

Or open Explorer to C:\Dualwins\Opts.

Desktop: Refreshes the Desktop icon.

FastBoot: Selects dual-boot reboot option for current Windows.

Remove: Returns Dualwins to its pre-setup state.

Restore1: Restores original boot files for 1st Windows.

Restore2: Restores original boot files for 2st Windows.

TestDisk: Tests a Win9x boot disk's suitability for use with DualWins.


Restore is the user's safeguard against missing boot files, file corruption, etc.

UNINSTAL

To Uninstal DualWins:

1. Boot to the Windows you wish to keep !!!

2. Delete c:\dualwins using Windows Explorer.

3. Delete all files & folder of the OTHER Windows.

4. Do NOT DELETE any files or folders for Windows running now.

Alternatively, use Remove.bat and retain option to add another Windows 9x at a later date.

ADDAWINS DUAL-BOOT UTILITY

Options AddAwins 3.6 is superior to DualWins.

All users are encouraged to use AddAWins (freeware, 208KB) for dual-booting instead of DualWins. DualWins is not upgradable to AddAWins.

AddAWins operates the same way as DualWins, has all the same functions, but also has these additional features:

- Dual-boot 2 Windows 9x, or
  multi-boot 3 to 6 Windows 9xs.
- User-friendly shortcuts in Start.
- Backup & Restore.
- Refresh AddAWins files.
- History of use.
- Show details of Wins that dual-boot.
- Boot Disk creation with generic CD driver.
- Uninstall   - Hard Disk cleanup   - others.
